Cantine Due Palme, Via San Marco 130, 72020 Cellino San Marco (Brindisi), Italy
Behind the producer Cantine Due Palme is an agricultural cooperative founded in 1989 by Mr. Angelo Maci. Small winegrowers from the provinces of Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto have joined forces. The headquarters of the initiative is in the Apulian wine-growing region of Salento.
These grape varieties are typical of Cantine Due Palme
On more than 2200 hectares of vineyards, mostly autochthonous grape varieties are grown. Typical varieties are:
- Primitivo
- Negroamaro
- Malvasia Nera
Other grape varieties grown in smaller quantities by the cooperative are Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Nero and Bianco, Chardonnay and Sauvignon. In the meantime, almost extinct grape varieties such as the Susumaniello are being revived by the winegrowers of the cooperative.
Cantine Due Palme mainly produces red wines
The wines that are made from these vines are now far beyond the Known and loved beyond the borders of Italy. About 85% of the wines produced are red wines, which are produced in the order of 6 million bottles each year by the Cantine Due Palme. These wines are proof that quality can be consistently guaranteed, even in large quantities. The Selvarossa Riserva has been awarded three glasses in a row in the Italian wine guide Gambero Rosso.
"Alberello Pugliese" as a traditional cultivation method
A special feature of the cooperative is that it is innovative and tradition in a perfect way. The winegrowers of the Cantine Due Palme rely on the Alberello Pugliese as a traditional form of winegrowing. Translated, this means something like "bush education". The individual vines are grown in the form of individual bushes without a wire frame or support, which is intended to achieve balanced growth. This results in more concentrated fruit with a good acidity.
Apulia is the largest wine-growing region in Italy in terms of volume
Cantine Due Palme is based and has its vineyards in Apulia, the quantitatively largest wine-growing region in Italy . For a long time, wines from Apulia were unknown, which only changed at the turn of the millennium. Many winegrowers have successfully implemented modernization measures and are now producing quality wines that make it onto the international wine lists. In addition, the location between the Ionian and the Adriatic Sea offers the best conditions for a large number of different soils to develop. The vines grow here on sandy, calcareous or stony soils, on which an autochthonous variety of grapes can develop.
The red wines from the region are particularly highly praised. In Salento, the winegrowers achieve very good results with the Negroamaro. The wines from the Malvasia Nera and Primitivo varieties, with their intensive fruit aromas, are also pleased with the recognition. On the other hand, some of the best Primitivo wines, which are often aged in barrique barrels, come from the province of Taranto.
Wines from the Cantine Due Palme are produced with uncompromising quality
For the Cantine Due Palme, the consistency of quality is a fixed point in the company's history. Despite the size, buyers of the wines can rest assured that the promise of quality will be uncompromisingly kept. The bottles are sold at excellent value for money. The distinguishing feature are two golden palm trees on the label.
One of the top wines is the Selvarossa Salice Salentino Riserva, which is made from 90% Negroamaro grapes. The dry red wine was matured in barrique barrels and goes well with meat dishes such as beef, pork and poultry.
