Domaine Fabien Coche is a family-owned winery located in Meursault, within France's renowned Burgundy region. Established in 1940, the estate spans approximately 12 hectares (about 30 acres) of vineyards distributed across Meursault, Pommard, Auxey-Duresses, Monthélie, Saint-Romain, Saint-Aubin, and Puligny-Montrachet.
Winemaking traditions preserved in the generations of the Coche family
Fabien Coche, a fourth-generation vigneron, assumed control of the domaine in 2005. His lineage includes connections to the esteemed Coche-Dury estate, managed by his cousin Raphael. Under Fabien's leadership, the domaine has garnered attention for producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique characteristics of their respective terroirs.
The estate practices organic farming, a commitment initiated in 1998, emphasizing the preservation of soil health and environmental sustainability. This dedication led to the domaine's application for organic certification starting with the 2020 harvest.
Domaine Fabien Coche's vineyards boast an impressive average vine age, with more than 60% of the vines exceeding 60 years. This maturity contributes to the depth and complexity of their wines. The estate produces a diverse range of appellations, including Meursault, Meursault Premier Cru, Puligny-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru, Pommard, Pommard Premier Cru, Auxey-Duresses, and Auxey-Duresses Premier Cru.
In the cellar, Fabien employs traditional winemaking techniques with minimal intervention. White wines undergo whole-bunch pressing and extended aging on lees—12 months for Aligoté and Bourgogne, and up to 18 months for Meursaults. Red wines are crafted with partial whole-bunch fermentation, gentle maceration, and limited use of new oak to accentuate freshness and finesse.
The estate's wines are celebrated for their purity, balance, and expression of terroir. Fabien's approach results in wines that capture the acidity and clarity reminiscent of Roulot, without the pronounced sulfur notes often found in young wines, and eschew the opulent texture characteristic of Coche-Dury. This philosophy ensures that each wine authentically represents its vineyard origin.
Domaine Fabien Coche's commitment to quality and sustainability has solidified its reputation as a notable producer in Burgundy.
